Headline:
A focused, collaborative approach

We integrate evidence based approaches including CBT E, DBT informed strategies, and CBT AR for ARFID, depending on what will be most effective for your specific presentation.

Sessions are active and goal oriented, with a focus on early change, skill development, and building a more stable relationship with food and body over time.

When needed, we work as part of a broader care team, coordinating with outside providers to support full recovery.

Conditions we treat

We treat a full range of eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and ARFID, as well as patterns of disordered eating that may not meet strict diagnostic criteria but still significantly impact quality of life.

Many of the individuals we work with also experience co-occurring challenges such as anxiety, depression, OCD, and trauma. Treatment is designed to address both the eating disorder and these underlying or contributing factors in an integrated, thoughtful way.

Frequently asked questions about eating disorder treatment

  • Columbus Park uses the most well-studied and potent therapies available and delivers these treatments with the highest level of skill. Columbus Park providers have extensive training and experience with eating disorders specifically and work together as a team to bolster results. Our outcomes demonstrate that the treatment we provide is highly effective and efficient.

  • Individual fit is essential for a successful therapy. Columbus Park has a team of therapists so with options, we have the flexibility to select the provider based on client characteristics and individual needs. The initial evaluation is the time to identify a recommended treatment course and discuss the ideal style and approach of the provider for each client. Feedback from the client drives a match that gives the client the best potential for success.

  • If you have enough concerns about your relationship with food or your body to find your way to this website, then we’re very glad you’re here! Columbus Park offers a free phone consultation which is an opportunity to speak with an expert to share your experience. We will help you through that conversation with clarifying questions and will immediately provide feedback, information, and suggestions regarding next steps.

  • Columbus Park is not contracted with any insurance companies directly; we are considered out-of-network which means that depending on your insurance plan, you may be eligible for reimbursement for a percentage of the costs. We advise that you reach out to your carrier to clarify your out-of-network behavioral health benefits. We provide detailed invoices (“superbills”) that you can submit to your carrier when filing out-of-network claims. If your insurance representative asks for a specific “procedure code” for individual therapy, you can share the CPT code 90834 (individual therapy 45 minutes) and 90837 (individual therapy 55 minutes).

  • We see great benefit in avoiding a hospital or group program setting. Unless there is an immediate medical complication, we believe it’s in the client’s best interest to do the work of therapy in the least restrictive setting possible while engaged in their lives and learning how to navigate stressors in real time.

  • It is very common for eating disorders to occur alongside mood conditions like anxiety, depression, or OCD. Our team is skilled in addressing the full spectrum of emotional and behavioral concerns.

  • If you or a loved one is interested in learning more about starting individual therapy, please schedule a complimentary consultation call via the calendar below or click here. You will be connected with an expert from the Columbus Park team.

  • Columbus Park believes that full recovery from eating disorders is possible. The goal of individual therapy is the extinction of all disordered eating behaviors. We expect nothing less than complete physical, emotional, and behavioral health. Further, we do not believe that therapy should be a life sentence. Columbus Park is dedicated to efficient, effective, time-limited therapy so that our clients can recover and move on with their lives. We’re incredibly proud that 75% of our clients meet treatment goals and graduate from therapy within 20 weeks.

  • The length of treatment and number of sessions per week are determined based on specific symptoms, medical status and the type of therapy approach selected. Columbus Park’s first line treatment for adult patients, CBT-E, is a relatively short-term outpatient therapy offered in two doses: the standard structure for bulimia and binge eating disorder is 20-sessions over 20-weeks. For anorexia, the treatment duration is typically a bit longer – more like 40-weeks (30-40 sessions). For those patients who meet criteria for DBT, another therapy offered by Columbus Park, treatment commitment is 6 months to one year. DBT involves one individual and one group therapy session weekly. Family-Based Treatment for children and adolescents with eating disorders is a highly efficient treatment that generally concludes within 6-8 months with a shorter duration for many. FBT meetings are typically once weekly.

  • Columbus Park offers a hybrid treatment model. Sessions can be in person at our midtown location or delivered via telehealth.

  • Most often, there is resistance from the teen at the start and this is to be expected. We wholeheartedly support you through this challenging phase with concrete strategies and guidance directed to help you achieve the necessary compliance from your teen. Parents are not expected to know how to manage an eating disorder but they can learn quickly and gain the necessary capabilities to help their teen not only recover in the short-term but remain well and thriving in the long-term.

  • It’s quite natural - and expected - to have mixed feelings about treatment and recovery. Over time, eating disorders become like close, old (toxic) friends. It’s not easy to think of leaving. We understand this conflict and will work with you gently and with tremendous empathy for your experience. It can help to break the process down into one meeting at a time. You’re fully in the driver’s seat. No one will take that from you. We’re just here to help and to guide you finding health and peace of mind. Just give us a call. And let us know that you’re scared. We get it.
